Location: Rangjung Yeshe Gomde California

Gomde’s Annual New Year’s retreat focuses on the deity Vajrasattva—an expression of the ultimate purity of our intrinsic nature. Vajrasattva is the essence of all the Buddhas, so all deities are included within this single deity and all practices within this one sādhana. When you practice this short liturgy of Vajrasattva, it is as if you practice every sādhana of every deity.

This profound practice of the Sangtik Dorsem was revealed by Chokgyur Lingpa as part of the Sangtik cycle of teachings. It purifies the afflictions that arise due to our past negative actions, clears our mental obscurations, and reveals our stainless essence, the ultimate Vajrasattva.

This intensive retreat will offer practitioners the opportunity to immerse themselves in sadhana practice in a traditional retreat setting. We will become familiar with how practitioners have structured strict retreat since the time of the Buddha, and get a taste of the spiritual depths of longer retreat. Daily group practice sessions will be combined with detailed instruction on all stages of the practice.

This year’s retreat will remain “open” for the initial three days.  At the end of the third day we will close Gomde’s gates and institute a traditional retreat boundary for the remainder of our time together. Students have the option of leaving the retreat after one, two, or three weeks, or to remain until the culmination, upon which we will practice the ritual methods of receiving accomplishments.

Please understand that offsite lodging is not permitted following the initial three-day open segment of the retreat. Practitioners of all levels are welcome to attend.

* As of now we are only reserving lodging for those who are staying for 3 or 4 weeks. If you plan to attend for a shorter period of time, please register and choose payment by check option (no payment necessary) and we will contact you at the end of November.*
