The seclusion and beauty of Rangjung Yeshe Gomde provides a ideal environment for individual retreats. The natural setting and the blessings of the many Tibetan masters who have visited the land combine to create an extraordinary space for the cultivation of personal practice.
Members of our community are welcome to engage in closed retreat, combine their practice with participation in Gomde’s many teaching and meditation activities or simply enjoy our 250 acres of woods, meadows and river views.
June to September
During Gomde’s summer season we offer our members opportunities for individual retreat or the chance to combine their personal practice with participation in Gomde’s teaching and practice sessions. Retreatants may design their own daily schedule to remain in complete solitude, attend our afternoon teachings and meditation sessions, receive personal advice from our resident Lama, Tsultrim Sangpo, or offer volunteer service for the center. Scheduling a personal retreat just after one of our teaching programs is a specifically effective way assimilate teachings and gain personal experience in practice.
In the warm summer months, our spacious tent cabins are open for retreat rental. Scattered throughout our forested campground, each cabin is furnished with a cot, dresser, lantern and area rug. Retreatants are asked to bring their own bedding and any additional supplies they require. Food is provided by our summer kitchen staff. Retreatants may join the rest of the community for dinner or have their meals brought to them.
October to May
From the fall to spring Gomde opens two riverside houses for personal or group retreat.
The Tara Cottage is a single-occupancy cabin with large windows opening onto the forested banks of the Eel River. Completely private, this self contained space has a full kitchen, bathroom and plenty of closet space. The Tara Cottage offers the ideal setting for short or extended periods of personal retreat. The River House is a three bedroom, two-bathroom house with a back deck overlooking the Eel River. With a fully equipped kitchen and laundry facilities, it can be rented by individuals or groups of retreantants.
Retreatants are responsible for their own food and meal preparation. Retreat support may be provided by Gomde staff with prior arrangement. Mattresses, blankets, and pillows are provided, but please bring your own bed linens and towels or rent a package for $15.
