Losar Retreat and Celebration
With Lama Gerry Prindiville
February 14 - 16, 2020
During Losar, the Tibetan New Year, it is customary for students to visit their gurus and make offerings and praises, thereby planting seeds for auspicious conditions in the coming year. In past years, Gomde California has celebrated the Tibetan New Year by connecting to the Guru through the practice of the Trinley Nyingpo. This year, we will continue our practice of the Trinley Nyingpo, and we will also include a host of celebratory activities.
We will meditate together, screen a Buddhist film, make momos, and welcome the coming year. Time will be allocated for nature walks, group practice, and community events on Gomde’s beautiful land. In accordance with the way the New Year is celebrated in Tibet and Nepal, this will be a warm and fun event, centered on Sangha connectivity.
In the mornings, we will practice the Treasury of Blessings and the Concise Daily Manual with a sang (ritual smoke) offering to encourage a meritorious beginning to the New Year. In the afternoon we will practice the Tara Sadhana that Swiftly Fulfills all Wishes and in the evening we will practice the Trinley Nyingpo.
The program will begin Friday evening, February 14th and will finish at lunch on Sunday, February 16th. Please join us to practice and celebrate together the incoming Tibetan New Year, the year of the Male Iron Rat.
Lama Gerry completed a traditional three-year retreat in Nepal, under the guidance of Chökyi Nyima Rinpoche, in 2007. Since that time, Rinpoche has on numerous occasions requested Lama Gerry to give meditation instruction and practice advice to Rinpoche’s students. When Lama Gerry moved to California from Nepal in 2011, Chökyi Nyima Rinpoche asked him to teach and lead retreats at Gomde.
